BOOST YOUR SELF ESTEEM

Sometimes we watch movies just for the fun, but other times we watch them to raise our spirits, boost our social skills or learn how to communicate with people around us.

Here's a list of movies I'd recommend you watch when you're feeling low or trying to find yourself. 

10. Theory of Everything (James Marsh, 2014)

At 21, Hawking learns that he has motor neuron disease. Despite this, he begins an ambitious study of time, of which he doesn't have a lot to live. He and Jane, a girl he falls in love with at Cambridge University, develop a theory about visibility of black holes and physical aspects of the universe.

9. Matilda (Felicity Dahl, 1996)

Based on Roald Dahl storybook, this adaptation tells the story of Matilda Wormwood forced to put up with a crude chauvinist father and a mother who doesn't love her much. She also has to put up with her bully of a principal. When Matilda learns that she has telekinesis, she uses this power to fight against the wrath from the principal and her unkind parents.

8. Moonrise Kingdom (Wes Anderson, 2013)

Two 12-year-olds fall in love and run away to start a new life with each other. They set out to discover love and independence but are faced with complications from the authorities looking for them to a violent storm that hits the island. 

7. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (Milos Forman, 1975)

It mainly talks about the difference between sanity and insanity. The movie talks about a man, Patrick McMurphy, who is transfered from prison to a mental institution thinking that life in the latter would be better but instead the psychiatric nurse rules his and other patient's lives with tough abuse.

6. The Meyerowitz Stories (Noah Baumbach, 2017)

Estranged siblings come together to celebrate their father, Harold, and his work as an artist.

5. The Royal Tenenbaums (Wes Anderson, 2001)

After being separated from their parents due to betrayal and disaster, the Tenenbaum siblings discover their extraordinary abilities.

4. The Greatest Showman (Michael Gracey, 2017)

Growing up in the 1800s P.T Barnum loses his job when the company goes bankrupt. He turns to show business to indulge his imagination rising from nothing to creating a circus of his own. He builds a name for himself by featuring mysterious creatures and magical beings.

3. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (Ben Stiller, 2013)

Walter Mitty lives in a world of fantasy and feels unworthy of the things he desire in life. He however gets a chance to prove to himself to the world when he is put on a mission to acquire a exquisite photo for his company, Life Magazine.

2. The Pursuit of Happiness (Gabriele Muccino, 2006)

Life gets tough for a single father who is evicted from his apartment. Chris Gardner and his young son find themselves no place to go. Eventhough Chris gets a job as an intern in a firm, the position pays no money. Chris doesn't give up but struggles to create a better life for him and his son.


1. The Devil Wears Prada (David Frankel, 2006)

Andy is a college graduate with big dreams. She is an aspiring journalist and lands a job as the assistant of a very mean editor in chief. She realises that the job a million girls would die for may just kill her.

Everyone is in favor of high esteem, but having it can be tough. When you value yourself and have high spirit, you often feel secure, loved and wanted.
