SERIES BASED ON BOOKS
Some people say the book is better, but I beg to differ because even if you don't read any books, the shows based on them will give you just enough information to keep up.
Defending Jacob (2020) by Morten Tyldum
Based on the book with the same name, it was written by William Landay. Defending Jacob is a story of an assistant district attorney whose teenage son is accused of murdering his classmate. The story divides families, friendships and puts to test the relationships between parents and children. I loved the film since it always kept me on edge while waiting for the mystery to be solved.
The Witcher (2019-) by Lauren Schmidt
Some people think that it is based on video games like Mortal Combat (2021) but The Witcher is a 2007 to 2016 novel written by Andrzej Sapkowski. It's about a monster hunter Geralt of Rivia who discovers the people around him are worse than the monsters he was born to kill.
Game Of Thrones (2011-2019) by Benioff and Weiss
There's not fun without fire spitting dragons and spectacular characters who adopt their roles to fit their situation. Game Of Thrones is based on a book series A Song Of Ice And Fire by George R. R. Martin. Despite the long episodes full of action, drama adventure and thriller, it is worth your time.
Bridgerton (2020-) by Anne Robinson
The novel series Bridgerton by Julia Quinn covers the story of the seven Bridgerton siblings and their lives. The first season starts with Daphne Bridgerton who is the oldest daughter, and is titled "The Duke and I". The series was a big deal in Netflix, with so many reviews and love all round. I mean who doesn't love gossip and steamy romance stories?
Queen's Gambit (2019) by Scott Frank
Follow Beth Harmon as she takes us through her life as a chess prodigy from an orphanage. The story is based on the novel Queen's Gambit by Walter Tevis and set on 1950s to 1960s.
The Sinner (2017-) by Derek Simonds
This is a 1999 novel of the same name by Petra Hammesfahr. It tells the story of a detective Harry Ambrose who looks into different murders by unlikely criminals trying to solve them. Due to it's success the series has grown to four season instead of it's initial plan, one.
The 100 (2014-2020) by Jason Rothenberg
It is based on Kass Morgan's science fiction novel The 100. After apocalyptical world, Earth survivors decide to test if Earth is cordial by sending 100 misfits as lab rats. The series is full of adventure, science and drama that would keep you glued to the screen from the first episode. All seven seasons can be found on Netflix for you to watch.
It is written by Caroline Kepnes. This is the story of a bookstore manager who is obsessed with different women, stalks them on sight and online thus luring them to fall in love with him. He follows the same pattern in the second season only to find his love match is so like him. If you love dark and creepy romance then this might be your show.
